In Memory of Stuart Hawthorn

Our friend and colleague, Stuart Hawthorn died on 18th December 2008 at the age of 48.

Stuart died from a heart attack whilst in hospital recovering from complications following an operation to remove a benign tumor.

Stuart established Heartstone Inns with James Birch in early 2007 but had been in the pub and brewing industry for 23 years. Before Heartstone Stuart had been Brewing and Brands Director at Refresh UK (owners of Wychwood Brewery) and prior to that had held senior positions at Greene King, Morland and Scottish & Newcastle.

Stuart was a good man and a true gentleman who will be sorely missed by many. The large number of industry colleagues who either attended the funeral or have sent condolences is testament to this. Stuart’s legacy is a company which is successful and is well positioned to continue its growth.

The very well attended funeral took place in Oxford on 30th December 2008.

Our deepest sympathies go to Stuart’s wife Gill, his children and his immediate family.
